Jason C. Murgio - Principal
Jason Murgio serves as a Principal at Merger & Acquisition Services, Inc. The firm provides advice to clients looking to either sell or purchase insurance related companies, books of business, licenses, and teams of insurance professionals in both the life/health and property/casualty insurance sectors.
Mr. Murgio started his career as a Registered Investment Advisor for Phoenix Home Life Mutual Insurance Company. His area of concentration was on providing business continuation planning and financial advice for small to mid-sized businesses. In his first year he was the Nationwide 'Rookie of the Year' and one of the top ten insurance producers in the state of Connecticut. Jason went on to work for Landmark Partners as an Analyst for three of their private equity funds.
By 2000, he was asked to join onProject Inc, as the Business Development Director. As such, he was responsible for raising first and second round financing for the company, as well as, creating additional revenue streams. Within 12 months, Mr. Murgio had successfully raised capital, forged over 30 strategic partnerships, including a retail distribution arm, all helping onProject attain profitability. In 2001, Jason founded Venture Credit, LLC a private equity firm dedicated to providing convertible debentures to middle market companies. As the firm's Managing Partner, Mr. Murgio was responsible for conducting Venture Credit's $75MM international fund raising effort and was a member of the Firm's Investment Committee.
Mr. Murgio joined M&A in 2002 and since then has completed close to 100 deals within the insurance sector.
Mr. Murgio received his BA from Union College in Political Science / Pre Law.
Daniel J. Baransky, CFA - Vice President
Dan Baransky serves as Vice President at Merger & Acquisition Services, Inc. The firm provides advice to clients looking to either sell or purchase insurance related companies, books of business, licenses, and teams of insurance professionals in both the life/health and property/casualty insurance sectors.
Prior to joining M&A, Mr. Baransky rose to the level of Vice President at Fox-Pitt, Kelton, where he served from 2000 to 2008. In this capacity he was a sell side analyst of property casualty and more recently life insurance companies. In this role he had extensive contact with insurance industry executives and provided stock advice based upon comprehensive research and valuation work to potential investors. In addition, he worked on marketing several insurance industry IPOs.
Daniel Baransky received his BS in Economics and Finance from Bryant College and completed the Certificate in Accounting from Quinnipiac College. He holds the Series 7, 63, and 87 licenses.
David A. Schofield - Actuarial Consulting & Valuations
David Schofield serves as an actuary and valuation consultant for Merger & Acquisition Valuation Services, Inc. The firm provides valuation advice, opinion letters and actuarial consulting services to both life/health and property/casualty companies.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Schofield was a Vice President with an international actuarial consulting firm. At this firm he specialized in insurance M&A activity. He has worked on assignments for over 350 insurance companies on a broad range of projects. Areas of expertise include:
- Merger and Acquisition: Involved in developing marketing plans, writing offering memos, establishing price, setting criteria to screen buyers, conducting and participating in all phases of negotiation.
- Financial Reporting: Statutory and GAAP actuarial statement of opinion; value based measurement analysis; purchase GAAP analysis and actuarial appraisals. He has participated at seminars on pricing and financial management systems.
- Product Development: Priced Universal Life, annuity and traditional plans of insurance for numerous distribution systems and markets, including; PPGA, home service, career and direct response.
Mr. Schofield completed the examination process and work experience criteria to become a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, member of the American Academy of Actuaries, Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and Fellow to the Life Management Institute. He holds a degree in Mathematics from The University of Southern Florida.
Jack Lubitz - Chief Compliance Officer
Jack Lubitz serves as Chief Compliance Officer at Merger & Acquisition Capital Services, Inc. The firm provides merger and acquisition services and corporate finance services to companies in both the life/health and property/casualty insurance sectors.
Prior to joining M&A, Mr. Lubitz served as Assistant Vice President with Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc., were he participated in the creation and growth of their Active Assets Division.
In addition to growing that division to over 160,000 new accounts, he was responsible for providing necessary support to various departments within the Active Assets Division.
After leaving Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc., Mr. Lubitz formed JIL Financial Services were he offered consulting and FINOP services to member firms in the securities industry. Duties included keeping the financial books and records, interacting with regulatory agencies, handling compliance related matters, authoring and filing necessary regulatory reports and working with outside independent auditors.
Mr. Lubitz earned his BBA from Baruch College in New York. He holds the Series 7, 63, 24 & 27 licenses.
